Holiday Tour of Inns 2013

The Park Avenue Manor has once again been selected to be one of the six featured Inns for the annual Savannah Holiday Tour of Homes and Inns.  The Home Tour will be held on Saturday, December 14th and the Inn Tour will be held on Sunday, December 15th.  This year is especially noteworthy since four of the six Inns on the Tour are in Savannah’s Victorian District.  This will be the second time we have been on the Tour; our first was in 2011.   Here is the website for the Holiday Tour:  Below are some pics of the Park Avenue Manor from past holiday seasons.

Victorian Tea Garden wins the prize at the Picnic in the Park

On Sunday, October 6, the City of Savannah hosted “Picnic in the Park”.   This is an annual event in Forsyth Park (just across from our B&B) and this year’s theme was “Celebrating the Arts”.  Of course, the Victorian Neighborhoods Association (VNA) had an amazing presentation and their display for the event was titled “Mary Telfair…Celebrating the Arts in her Tea Garden”.  The display was designed around an 1872 Victorian Tea Garden.   The judges were blown away and the VNA won first prize!  Park Avenue Manor innkeepers Maurice Norman (VNA President) and Glenn Gaylord (VNA Treasurer) were not in costume, but did assist in the production.  In addition, the Savannah Philharmonic Orchestra performed well into the evening.  Residents and Visiting Guests alike enjoyed the free outdoor experience.  Here are some pictures of the event.

Don’s Super Cycle

Returning Guests (and dear friends) Dee and Don spent 7 nights with us last week and they brought their bicycles with them, including Don’s hand crafted super bicycle.  Heads turned and cameras clicked every time someone spotted the rather unusual bicycle as they rode around the downtown historic district.  Red, on the other hand, does not look impressed.

Savannah’s Color Run

August 17th was the annual 5k Color Run in Savannah.  The Color Run, also known as the Happiest 5k on the Planet, is a unique paint race that celebrates healthiness, happiness, individuality, and giving back to the community.  The race benefited Horizons Savannah, which helps to provide students from low-income families in the Savannah area with an academic, cultural, and recreational program designed to help close the achievement gap by preventing summer learning loss and encouraging academic growth.  Park Avenue Manor Guest Kathleen G. participated in the race and earned her “colors”.

The Ladies of LaSalle-Peru

Last weekend, July 11-13, the Park Avenue Manor was taken over by the Ladies of LaSalle-Peru!  Just kidding, these ladies are all long-time friends and decided to have their annual get-together at our centrally located Inn.   We were pleased they chose us and we all had a blast while they were here.  Pictured below are the lovely Ladies wearing their fascinator hats, perfect attire for strolling the streets of historic Savannah.

Sidewalk Art and Civil War Soldiers

Saturday, April 27th was the annual Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) Sidewalk Art Festival at Forsyth Park.  Each participant artist was given one sidewalk square to paint with various colors of chalk.  The artwork was very creative and exceptionally colorful.  Here are a few of the ones we liked best:

There was also a reenactment of a civil war battle scene that was being staged at the Confederate War Monument near the Bandshell at Forsyth Park.  Here are a few shots of the Civil War soldiers, widows and a Southern Belle.

A Holiday Poem by Rachel and Rolland

For a few nights before Christmas
We were all settled in,
Staying at Park Avenue Manor
Hosted by Maurice and Glenn.
Its twinkling lights welcomed
(Such a warm hospitality),
We sipped sherry by the fire
In the glow of the Christmas tree.
Breakfast each morning
Was a most delicious treat,
Giving us a good start
As we walked Savannah’s streets.
Our Yuletide visit with you,
Filled with fun and with cheer,
Will be a happy memory
Through Christmas and the New Year.
